Getting Started

If your child is new to the sport and interested in playing hockey with the Baltimore Stars, here's what you do:

1. Enroll your child in a Learn-to-Skate class at a local rink --  Mount Pleasant Ice Arena in Northeast Baltimore; Reisterstown Sportsplex in Baltimore County, or the DiPietro Family Skating Center in Patterson Park, southeastern Baltimore City.

2. Place your child in a Hockey Basics class at one of the rinks. Reisterstown's Hockey Basics class is taught by Chris Bereson:  410-429-4242

3. Skate, skate, skate at public skating sessions and stick-n-puck sessions.

4. Mention Baltimore Youth Hockey when you purchase good, used skates and equipment at any of four local Play It Again Sports stores. The PIAS on York Road in Cockeysville and the one on Belair Road in Fullerton have been special friends of BYH by outfitting new families and supplying our club's equipment needs.

5. Enroll your child in BYH's rec program in September: Atoms and Mites cross-ice (ages 6 through 8); Squirts (ages 9 and 10); Peewees (ages 11 and 12) and Bantams (ages 13 and 14). Registration usually takes place in late summer. Watch for notices elsewhere on this web site.

If you are interested specifically in girls ice hockey, visit the Susquehanna Rapids web site.
